✓ Old Sheldon Church Ruins# — Colonial-era church burned by the British, rebuilt, then burned again by Union troops in 1865. Tall brick arches in a grove of live oaks with Spanish moss. Free to visit. Best at golden hour — arrive late afternoon.

$8–$99 for park access / $54+ lodging

✓ Hunting Island State Park # — Semi-wild barrier island near Beaufort. $8 adult admission. Camping from $25–$66/night (100 sites, water and electric). Lighthouse climb $2 extra. Two-night minimum on most reservations.
