The mid-range Vegas trip is the sweet spot: a comfortable center-Strip base, a great show, a memorable dinner, and a day trip out to the desert — the full experience without a high-roller budget.
A Center-Strip Base
Stay center-Strip — around Bellagio, Caesars, the Cosmopolitan, or Paris — where you can walk to the most in the least time. A comfortable mid-tier resort room here puts the fountains, the best dining, and the show venues at your doorstep. (Budget the resort fee into the rate.)
See a Show
A show is the mid-range must: a Cirque du Soleil production (O, Mystère, KÀ), a big magic act, or a headliner residency — and, if it fits, a night at the Sphere. Book ahead for the best seats and prices; these sell out, especially on weekends.
Dine Well, Once or Twice
Vegas is a genuine food city now. Splurge on one or two standout meals — a celebrity-chef restaurant, a great steakhouse, or a famous buffet — and keep the other meals casual. A reservation at a marquee restaurant is one of the trip's real highlights.
Add a Day Trip
Break up the neon with a half-day in the desert: Hoover Dam (about 45 minutes) or Red Rock Canyon (about 30 minutes, with its 13-mile scenic drive) are the easy classics. A rental car or a guided tour makes either simple, and the contrast makes the Strip hit harder when you return.
The Strip is 4.2 miles long, and the resorts are enormous inside — two "next-door" casinos can be a 20-to-30-minute walk apart. Wear real shoes, use the monorail, free hotel trams, the Deuce bus, or rideshare for longer hops, and don't try to walk it end to end in the summer heat.
