THE EARNEST TRAVELER
Jordan Pond is one of Acadia's signature landscapes — a clear glacial pond framed by the two rounded mountains known as the Bubbles, with a shoreline path that's become a rite of passage.
The Jordan Pond Path
The loop is 3.3 miles and takes 1–3 hours. The eastern half is even, crushed stone; the western half is meaningfully harder, with rocks, stepping stones, and a raised plank boardwalk, plus two wooden log bridges at the north end. That western stretch can challenge small children, seniors, and anyone with limited mobility.
The Bubbles
Perched on South Bubble is Bubble Rock, a roughly 100-ton glacial erratic of Lucerne Granite carried about 30 miles by the ice and left balancing on the edge.
Jordan Pond House
Famous for its popovers, a menu tradition since 1893. The 2026 restaurant opens May 15. Reservations are limited — most tables are held for walk-ins, with an average peak wait around 40 minutes and a Popover & Prosecco Bar for the wait. It's at 2928 Park Loop Road, Seal Harbor. Check current hours and the menu on the Jordan Pond House site before you go.
Parking & Water Rules
The North Lot near Jordan Pond House is limited; the official recommendation is to take the fare-free Island Explorer. Note that Jordan Pond is a public water supply — wading and swimming are not permitted, year-round.
