Luxury Yosemite

One grand hotel, and a lottery you probably will not win
Open year-round
Status — verified September 1, 2026

The Ahwahnee is open year-round. The High Sierra Camps are seasonal and awarded by lottery.

Yosemite has no luxury tier the way Las Vegas or Big Sur does. It has one grand hotel, and a chain of backcountry camps that are harder to get into than the hotel.

The Ahwahnee

Open year-round · Yosemite Valley

The 1927 granite-and-timber hotel that set the template for national park grand lodges, sitting on the Valley floor with Half Dome out the window. It is the only genuine luxury option inside the park — there is no competing resort tier here.

The dining room is the other draw, and it is worth knowing that the Ahwahnee's public spaces are open to anyone. You do not have to be a guest to walk into the Great Lounge.

High Sierra Camps

Seasonal · Awarded by lottery

A chain of backcountry camps with beds and meals, reached on foot. Not luxury in the marble sense, but the most sought-after stay in the park and harder to get than the Ahwahnee. Details and the lottery run through the concessioner.

Nobody publishes a nightly rate — and that is not us being coy

Neither the National Park Service nor the concessioner publishes nightly rates for any in-park property. Pricing is dynamic and only appears once you run a dated availability search. Any guide quoting you "the Ahwahnee costs $X" is quoting a number that was true on one date, for one room type, at one moment.

Check the live rate at travelyosemite.com, which is the only official booking channel. Reservations open 366 days ahead, and for the Ahwahnee in summer that lead time is not theoretical.

What the money does not buy

The honest recommendation

If the budget stretches to the Ahwahnee, the better use of it in a first-time visit is one night at the Ahwahnee and two nights somewhere ordinary in the Valley — because what you are buying in Yosemite is proximity and early starts, not thread count. Being on the Valley floor at 6 a.m. is worth more than any room.

Worth Having Anyway

Even at the top of the tier, the park is granite, altitude and glare.
